A free online audio recorder with pro-level tools
In short: VoiceRecorder is a free, 100% client-side voice recorder, audio trimmer and voice memo recorder. It records your microphone, shows a live waveform, lets you trim the start and end, and saves WAV or WebM files — without uploading audio to any server.
VoiceRecorder turns your browser into a lightweight recording studio. It is built on the standard Web Audio API and MediaRecorder API, so you can record microphone online with low latency on Windows, macOS, Linux, ChromeOS, Android and iPhone — without installing an app or creating an account.
Live waveform & frequency visualizer
A real-time HTML5 Canvas oscilloscope and spectrum analyzer shows exactly what your microphone hears while you record.
Mic level meter with clip & silence alerts
A peak-hold dBFS meter warns you when the signal clips or when the input is too quiet, so you never end up with a distorted or silent take.
Dual-handle audio trimmer
Trim audio online free with draggable waveform handles, precise sliders, "set at playhead" buttons and one-click auto-trim of leading and trailing silence.
Normalize, fade & mono
Optionally even out the loudness, add smooth fades and downmix to mono for smaller voice files — all processed in browser memory.
How the live waveform visualizer works
VoiceRecorder connects your microphone to a Web Audio API AnalyserNode and draws it on an HTML5 Canvas about 60 times per second. Nothing is sent over the network — the visualizer reads audio samples directly in your browser.
- Waveform view
- A real-time oscilloscope of the sound wave. Bigger swings mean louder sound; a flat line means silence.
- Frequency view
- A spectrum analyzer. Bars on the left are low tones (bass, voice body), bars on the right are high tones (sibilance, hiss).
- Recorded waveform
- After you stop, the whole take is drawn as peaks. Use it to spot silence and mistakes, then drag the trim handles to cut them.

Frequently asked questions
How do I record my voice online without software?
Open VoiceRecorder in any modern browser, press the Record button and allow microphone access when your browser asks. Speak, press Stop when you are done, then trim the recording if needed and click Download Audio File. Nothing needs to be installed.
Are my microphone recordings saved on any server?
No. VoiceRecorder captures, trims and encodes audio entirely inside your browser using the Web Audio API and MediaRecorder. Your recordings are never uploaded, stored or shared — they only exist in your device's memory until you download them or close the tab.
Can I trim my recorded audio before downloading?
Yes. After you stop recording, drag the start and end handles on the waveform or use the dual trim sliders to cut unwanted silence or mistakes from the beginning and end. The preview player plays only the selected part, and the download contains exactly that selection.
Should I download WAV or WebM?
WAV is uncompressed 16-bit PCM audio with maximum quality and universal compatibility for editors like Audacity or Premiere, but the files are large (about 5–10 MB per minute). WebM uses the Opus codec, which is roughly 10 times smaller and ideal for sharing voice notes, but some older software cannot open it.
Why is my recording silent or too loud?
Watch the mic level meter while recording. If it stays near the bottom, choose a different input source or raise your system microphone volume. If the CLIP warning appears, move away from the mic or lower the input gain. You can also enable Normalize before downloading to even out the final volume.
Does the online voice recorder work on iPhone and Android?
Yes. VoiceRecorder works in current versions of Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Opera and Safari on desktop and mobile, including iPhone (iOS 14.5 and later) and Android. On Safari the compressed format may be M4A instead of WebM, and WAV is always available.
Is there a recording time limit?
There is no fixed limit. Recordings are held in your device's memory, so very long sessions depend on available RAM. For recordings over an hour, WebM is recommended because WAV files become very large.
What does the live waveform show?
While recording, the Waveform view draws the microphone signal in real time (an oscilloscope) and the Frequency view shows the energy of low to high frequencies. After you stop, VoiceRecorder draws the full recording as an interactive waveform, where tall peaks are loud speech and flat sections are silence, which makes it easy to see where to trim.
Can I use VoiceRecorder as a voice memo recorder?
Yes. VoiceRecorder works as a quick voice memo recorder on desktop and mobile: press Record, speak your note, press Stop and download it as a small WebM file or a WAV file. No app install or account is required.
Is VoiceRecorder really free?
Yes. VoiceRecorder is 100% free with no sign-up, no watermarks and no limits on the number of recordings or downloads.
